World of Cultures - WoodSpirit

Have you ever smelt food and instantly been reminded of home?

Traditional recipes are passed down through generations, and coming together to eat is linked to many ritual celebrations around the world.

With our large food events cancelled, we wanted to ensure you still got a sense of the amazing food offerings available in Tāmaki Makaurau.

We filmed five small business owners who generously prepared a meal for us to express how food connects them to their culture.

In this video Mehmet and Yigit from WoodSpirit talk through how they prepare and make Turkish Pide.

Woodspirit is a food stall, started by two Turkish chefs who travelled the world for years in a culinary adventure before settling in Auckland. They bake and serve artisan Turkish flatbread (Pide) from scratch with their mobile wood fired oven. Best served hot, this dish is one you and your friends and family will love.
