World of Cultures - Gracefully Jerked

Have you ever smelt food and instantly been reminded of home?

Traditional recipes are passed down through generations and coming together to eat is linked to many ritual celebrations around the world.

With our large food events cancelled, we wanted to ensure you still got a sense of the amazing food offerings available in Tāmaki Makaurau. We filmed 5 small business owners who generously prepared a meal for us to express how food connects them to their culture.

In this video Grace from Gracefully Jerked talks us through how to prepare and make Jamaican beef patties, a pastry that contains a spiced beef filling baked inside a flaky shell. After traveling to her home country of Jamaica at the age of 21 and being blown away by the rich culture and tasty food, Grace set her sights on setting up her own food business so people could enjoy and experience the Jamaican vibe and flavours in NZ. Grace specialises in the famous Jamaican jerk style marinade for her patties, that you can now try at home.
